  • Concept of the work "Héro et Léandre":

The work "Héro et Léandre" , was made by the artist for her series of works entitled "Metaphors of feelings" . In this series, the artist uses situations, objects, real places in modern life where people interact, through an "Imaginary Reality", to demonstrate feelings and emotions and reflections linked to the soul.

In this particular work, Hero and Leandro is an ancient Greek myth that tells the story of Hero, a young priestess of Aphrodite (Venus, in Roman mythology) who lived in a tower in the city of Sesto, on the bank of the Straits of Helesponto (the current Strait of Dardanelles, Turkey), and Leandro, a young man from the city of Abidos, located on the bank on the other side of the strait. Leandro fell in love with Hero, and every night the young man swam across the strait to find himself. if with the beloved, being guided by the torch that she lit at the top of the tower where she lived. And so they stayed for a hot summer. However, on a winter night, during one of his swimming crossings, a storm extinguished the flame of the tower that guided Leandro, which made it impossible for him to find his way, getting lost and going in the direction to the sea, until drowning. The next morning, when Hero saw, from the high tower, the body of the beloved brought by the waves, he rushed into the sea to join him, in death.

So the work "Héro et Léandre" refers to love, but also to painful separations in everyday life, sometimes necessary in life.
